Capt Paul Cody says that a Gadsden Police officer is in critical condition after he was involved in a wreck on his motorcycle Saturday afternoon.
Sgt. Gary Pierce, currently assigned to the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, is in the neurological intensive care unit at UAB Hospital.
Cody said Pierce was injured after his motorcycle hit the rear of another vehicle that failed to yield the right of way near the intersection of Whorton Bend Road and Rainbow Drive.
Pierce was not on duty at the time of the wreck.
Pierce initially was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to UAB.
