15 emergency rescue workers at the Gadsden-Etowah EMS walked out Friday night.
Most haven’t been paid in a month and a half.
According to reports from ABC 33/40, the company which owns the service hasn’t returned calls and employees say they can’t even pay their bills.
Not only has the lack of money been devastating, but out of seven of their ambulances, only three are working – and there’s no money to fix them.
Employees at Decatur EMS, which is owned by the same company, have walked out as well for similar reasons.
Many employees report they are barely even able to buy gas to get to work, much less make car and house payments.
For now all ambulance calls will be handled by RuralMetro, who also operates in the city, so the people of Gadsden will be covered at all times.
