Sunday Morning Accident Claims Life of Calhoun County Man

A Calhoun County man was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash occurring Sunday in Oxford.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown pronounced Corey Phillips, age 24, dead at 9:34am – at the scene of the accident on Frances Boulevard just off Highway 78.

Brown said Phillips had been driving his girlfriend’s Volvo, and he was the only person involved in the accident; he died as a result of head trauma suffered in the crash.

According to the Anniston Star, the vehicle left the roadway – struck an embankment and flipped over, ejecting the driver.  Brown further stated that Phillips wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, adding that speed was a factor in the wreck.
