A Cherokee County family is celebrating the realization of a dream in the making for more than two years.
The SongBird Recording Studio in Gaylesville officially opened for business recently.
The studio is owned by Stephanie Weaver and has already hosted some recording sessions.
Weaver’s father Lee Barnes says he has been fascinated with recording studios since he was a child but the idea to actually build one really picked up steam years later after his son became interested in music.
Sadly, Barnes’ son Chris and wife Molly died in an automobile accident in 2012, before the studio was completed.
Barnes credits Molly Barnes, who was a much-loved teacher with the Cherokee County School System, with coming up with the name for the studio.
David Hammonds is the studio’s engineer. He started his music career as a drummer and even once shared the stage with Bob Hope. He eventually moved into the production end of the music business.
Hammonds has also worked many country music including John Michael Montgomery, Alabama and Loretta Lynn.
