The latest big-name company to have their name used in connection with a scam attempt is Dish Network.
In the past Dish customers have reported being contacted by people claiming to be Dish Network representatives collecting money for specials promotions and/or upgrades. For example, some of the callers have offered customers a 50% discount off the price of normal service if they make an upfront payment via Western Union or Green Dot card.
They may also ask for your Dish account information – or personal information, such as security codes, passwords or credit card numbers.
Needless to say, these people are NOT associated with Dish Network in any way. It’s simply the latest trend in scams – using the name of a legitimate company to try and get your guard down as they attempt to gain personal information which can be used to tap into your account.
Dish Network would like to remind everyone – that they never ask for personal information over the phone after contacting you; the only time you may be asked to provide account information is when YOU contact Dish Network – NOT the other way around.
Should you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Dish Network, and they ask you for sensitive information DO NOT provide them with that information and hang up immediately.
