Calhoun County authorities have now charged one of the two men at the scene of a fatal shooting last week – with murder.
20 year old Elizabeth Lauren Hartnett was found dead last Thursday (December 19th) after she’d suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police answered an emergency call at Shannon Hills Apartments at around 9:00 that morning and when they arrived they found the victim – along with a man who had been present at the time the shooting occurred; they detained that individual for questioning, however he hasn’t been charged in the case. A second man later identified as Hartnett’s boyfriend – John Denver Pegg – had fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.
He was found later that same day he Clay County, where he attempted to elude law enforcement; however – he was apprehended by Clay County Deputies and members of the Clay County Drug Task Force.
On Friday Pegg was charged with Murder and is being detained on a cash bond of $100,000. He remains in custody in Clay County on unrelated arrest warrants. Once he has been released from the Clay County Jail on those charges, he’ll be transferred to the Calhoun County Jail.
