The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young woman Wednesday in Polk County, Tennessee – continues.
19 year old Brittany Mitchell, who was a 2012 graduate of Chattooga High School was struck by a train, at around 11:30 that morning; the conductor said he saw Mitchell lying on the tracks with her head facing north and her feet facing south. The conductor stated they hit the braking system with audible alarms already active due to a crossing ahead – however Mitchell failed to leave the tracks.
Mitchell, whose parents still reside in Summerville, was a member of the Chattooga High School cheerleading squad, a former drum line member and she performed in the high school chorus.
An autopsy is being conducted as the investigation into her death continues.
