Some good news just in time for Christmas, especially if you are going to be traveling.

Although the market price for oil has increased in the last few weeks, gas prices are expected to remain in check.

Libya has said it is prepared to restart shipping oil.

In addition, a recent deal with Iran regarding inspections of its nuclear program means the country will be allowed to restart oil exports.

In addition, U.S. supplies of oil and gasoline are already unusually high and that’s also helped control oil prices, which was at $96 a barrel Friday.

The government reported that domestic oil output last week also climbed to 8.1 million barrels per day, the highest level in more than 25 years.

The current national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is at just over 3-dollars and 21 cents.

Here in Alabama, the average is 3-dollars and 8 cents.

The lowest price in Centre as of Sunday morning, according to the website gasbuddy.com, was at 3-dollars and 2 cents.

Piedmont’s lowest was 3.09.

The lowest gas price in Fort Payne dipped below the 3-dollar a gallon mark at 2.99.

The cheapest gas we could find in the area was in Gadsden at 2-dollars and 93 cents a gallon.

Over in Rome, Georgia, where gas is usually more expensive than in Cherokee County, you could fill up on Sunday for as little as 2.99 a gallon.
