Thomas and James Earn All-America Honors

Jacksonville State’s Griffin Thomas and DaMarcus James have both been named to the Beyond Sports Network FCS All-America Teams, which was released by the organization on Thursday.

Thomas was named first-team All-American, while James earned third-team All-America honors, and the players become the 50th and 51st players in Jacksonville State’s history to earn All-America honors.

Thomas is one of the top kickers in the country after setting numerous Ohio Valley Conference and school records, including made field goals (23) field goal attempts (30) and points scored by kicking (128). The Snellville, Ga., native is 59-of-60 on extra points this season, which are also both school records.

James has also had a record-breaking season, where he has rushed for 1,431 yards on 277 carries to set the school’s single-season rushing record. The junior running back also has an OVC-record 28 rushing touchdowns and is currently ranked second in the nation and has scored a rushing touchdown in 11 consecutive games.

Jacksonville State continues its run in the NCAA Playoffs this week by traveling to No. 3 Eastern Washington in the quarter-final round. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3, and the Athletics Department will host a Gamecock Playoff Party in the Stadium Club on the fifth floor of Stadium Tower. Admission is $5, and JSU students and kids ages 18 and under accompanied by a paid adult get in free. Light refreshments and soft drinks will be served while the game is shown on the televisions in the Stadium Club. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. CT.
