Mohawk Industries recently announced an expansion plan for their existing facility in Rome.
It’s a move which will ultimately retain jobs, with the possibility of further expansion at the plant on Lavender Drive.
During a special called meeting of the Rome/Floyd County Development Authority this week the officials with Mohawk brought forth a proposal to upgrade the manufacturing process, from yarn spinning – to high-tech bulk continuous filament twisting and heat setting.
Mohawk will reportedly invest $31 million in that process, and in the facility, over the next three to four years – helping to retain 231 jobs with the potential for added growth as well.
The new manufacturing process will require different skill sets and technical training, for all new and existing employees.
The agreement approved by the Rome/Floyd Development Authority included a payment-in-lieu of taxes and a tax abatement package and a bond resolution.
