Everyone has questions and concerns about the new health care laws and it’s hard to know where to turn for answers.
Fortunately, the Cherokee County Public Library is stepping up to the plate on Friday (December 6th) to offer FREE information on the Affordable Care Act – and detailed instructions on how to go about signing up.
That’s Library Director Elaine Henry.
During the informational meeting – Facilitator Jeff Nelson will help guide all those in attendance through the Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment process. All facilitators require a minimum of training prior to taking on the role, including a 20 hour training course on health insurance and the Affordable Care Act which they must pass with a minimum score of 70% before receiving an approved certificate; that certificate must be presented along with a photo ID, to a state proctored testing facility to take the state test. Other factors may vary from state to state however most will be required to attend additional training courses.
Nelson assists people in a nine-county area – and, during a recent interview with the Daily Home newspaper in Pell City, he said a lot of people just want information, and he’s there to show them what the options are.
Untold numbers of people have received letters from their current insurance providers, informing them that their rates are going up – in many cases actually doubling then on the heels of that they are receiving cancellation notices – leaving precious little time to line up new coverage.
Many also question why Washington D.C. lawmakers are exempt from the Affordable Care Act.

Nelson stresses that his role is only to inform people about their options – and he never pressures anyone into a certain plan – adding that most people need more time to consider all their options, prior to making such an important decision.
