For the first time since the 1950’s, the fair was in Cherokee County this past weekend.
The first annual Cherokee County Agricultural Fair was sponsored by the Cherokee County FFA Association.
There were various exhibits and vendors, competitions, beauty pageants, music, livestock, midway rides and food, a petting zoo and even camel rides!
The fair is a fund-raising event to sponsor Cherokee County Students to attend the Washington Leadership Conference in the summer of 2014.
It was made possible by cooperative effort among county FFA chapters, FFA Alumni Organizations, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, Gadsden State Community College, the City of Centre, the Cherokee County Health Care Authority, and numerous other interested members of the community who have donated their time, goods, services and money.
The fairgrounds included the properties of Gadsden State Community College – Cherokee Campus, City of Centre Sports Complex, and Cherokee County Health Care Authority.
Officials hope this will be the start of an annual tradition that will get local students interested in careers in agriculture right here in Cherokee County.
