Man Involved in 2008 Bank Robbery Sentenced to 17 Years+ in Prison

A 33 year old will likely be celebrating his 50th birthday before being released from prison – that in the wake of his sentencing this week in connection with a bank robbery some five years ago.

Marcus Tyshun Porter of Gadsden, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Abdul Kallon, to a term of 17 years and six months – for his role, in the July 16th, 2008 robbery of the Wachovia Bank in Lenlock; he must also pay $277,773 in restitution to the bank.

Porter was found guilty by a federal jury in July (2013) of acting as the lookout during the heist.

In June 32 year old Willis Leach of Gadsden and Jesse Key, age 43 of Birmingham pled guilty to robbery charges; Gabriel Rice, age 25 of Gadsden, pled guilty to robbery and carjacking charges, back in 2008.

Key received a sentence of 14 years, six months, and Leach got five years, 10 months in prison – Rice was sentenced in 2009 to 17 years in prison.

Investigators say Key and Rice, after robbing the bank, forced two women at gunpoint to drive to Gadsden, where they met Porter and divided the take from the bank.
