The Cedar Bluff Town Council heard departmental reports during their brief meeting Tuesday night.

Fire Chief Bobby Joe Stinson says firefighters have been busy recently.

In October there were 5 structure fires and 2 mobile home fires.

There was also one vegetation fire, one woods fire and one outside rubbish fire.

Cedar Bluff firefighters also responded to 7 medical assist calls and 2 motor vehicle accidents.

The firefighters of the month were Brian Penland, who responded to 17 calls; Devan Mills had 12 calls and Cody Dawson had 11.

Chief Stinson also once again commended firefighters for their efforts during a large house fire Saturday evening on Highway 9.

Firefighters were on the scene from around 7 p.m. until around 3 Sunday morning and then were back at around 8 a.m. due to a restart.

This after participating in training exercises most of the day Saturday.

October was also a busy month for Cedar Bluff Police, who issued 69 speeding tickets.

In addition, there were 44 Incident/Offense reports, most for theft of property.

Cedar Bluff Police also made 13 arrests. Four for theft, four for criminal trespass, three for domestic violence, one for public intoxication and there was one felony warrant executed.

They also recovered miscellaneous scrap metal that had been stolen.

Chief Steve Walden also gave the building inspection report.

He said there was one electrical permit and one building permit issued in October for a total of 8-thousand dollars.
