Drivers are getting some relief at the pump ahead of the Holiday Season.

Gasoline prices have dropped for seven straight weeks and they could be going down even more.

The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded now hovers just north of 3.19 a gallon, down from 3.37 a month ago and 3.46 this time last year.

In Alabama, a gallon of gas costs an average of about 3-dollars and 10 cents, which is down from 3.17 last month and 3.20 a year ago.

On Sunday, the lowest price in Centre was 3.07.

Piedmont residents could fill up for as low as 3.09 a gallon while the lowest price in Gadsden was 3.01.

The lowest price in the area was reported in Fort Payne at 2.89 a gallon, according to the website gasbuddy.com.

Over in Georgia, the average price is 3.17 a gallon, but you could find it as cheap as 3-dollars and 3 cents in Rome.

The lowest price in Summerville was 3.16.

Crude oil prices have dropped by about 10-dollars a barrel since late August and the cost of gas traditionally drops toward the end of the year anyway as demand decreases because fewer motorists are on the roadways.

There is further good news, as some industry analysts believe that gas prices will continue to drop in the coming years thanks to the popularity of hybrid and other more fuel-efficient vehicles.
