On the heels of the official statement regarding two lawsuits recently filed against the company – Pioneer Green Energy, has announced a Partnership Agreement with the Cherokee County Board of Education, during which, they plan to provide scholarships and in-class learning tools for local students in the future.

Earlier this week we spoke with Cherokee County Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice – about the agreement; he also stated that the agreement would provide a big boost to the Cherokee County Career & Tech Center.

Pioneer Green Energy appears to be forging ahead, with plans to construct eight wind turbines in Cherokee County and as many as 40 in neighboring Etowah County – in spite of the two lawsuits recently being brought against them.

Both suits, one filed in Cherokee County and one filed in Etowah County, are seeking to stop the proposed windmill farm projects planned for their respective locations, citing among other things potential harm to property values, a disturbance of natural water sources and harm to wildlife and damage to the area’s natural beauty.

In their response to the lawsuits, Pioneer says (quote) “Our only desire is to conduct business and produce projects that create economic benefits and clean, homegrown energy – for Cherokee and Etowah counties – and the state of Alabama…while our two projects are far from finished, we remain committed to their satisfactory completion…it is our hope that all information that becomes available through the legal process will allow an understanding of our vision and better inform the opinions of those who oppose us.” (end-quote)
