A group of volunteers are busy putting together the first Cherokee County Fair since the 1950s.

One of those working on the project is Daphne Rogers, who addressed the Cherokee County Commission during its Monday planning session.

Rogers, who is seeking just over 36-hundred dollars from the county to help market November’s FFA Agriculture Fair, says the event will hopefully help make today’s students interested in a career here at home in agriculture.

In the short term, she says the fair will bring in tourism dollars.

The commission took no action regarding the request but expressed an interest in helping out.

During Monday’s regular meeting, the commission approved 18-hundred dollars in special use funds for the upcoming Shop at Home radio campaign for the upcoming holidays.

Commissioners also approved the transfer of the title of a 1999 van, formerly used for the nutrition center, to Cherokee County Health and Rehab as well as yearly budget revisions for the Revenue Commissioner and Reappraisal Offices.

The commission also adopted it 2013-2014 meeting schedule. The meeting will continue to be held on the 2nd and 4th Monday’s, except on holidays.

The next Cherokee County Commission meeting is on Tuesday, November the 12th at 10 a.m.
