Former Cherokee County Star A Part Of History

DJ

Former Cherokee County multi-sport star D.J. Fife was part of history last Thursday when Miles College defeated Lane College (TN) 38-26.

According to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, that was the first ever game to feature four female referees among the seven officials calling the game. While women have officiated college football games before, there had never been a majority-female crew that officiated an NCAA game. That was, until last Thursday evening.

Fife stamped his mark on the historic contest as he put the Golden Bears on the board first with a 20 yard touchdown reception early in the first quarter. The week before Fife scored twice in Miles victory over Kentucky State. The first touchdown was a 45 yard catch while the second was the result of a 62 yard punt return.

Fife was an all-state honoree on the 2009 state champion Cherokee County Warrior football team.
