YLC meets the first Tuesday of each month from October – April. A variety of topics is explored during the year. True Adventure Sports provided a dynamic orientation program “Practical Ingenuity-Think Outside the Box”. The session was filled with team building exercises, unity and understanding the leadership role while implementing life skills. The other programs to be explored include City/County Government, Education, Healthcare, Community Service, Economic Development and a trip to Montgomery. A graduation ceremony concludes the program year.
The students were selected after completing an application and in some cases an interview. Students must have maintained an 80 average in core curriculum subjects, have a history of acceptable attendance and behavior. They also must have shown involvement in extracurricular activities, honors and awards and community service. There is no cost to the students to participate.
This year’s sponsor is Gadsden State Community College. Supporting sponsors include: Regions Bank and KTH Leesburg Products.
Advisory Council members include: Mickie Kerr, Chairman. Kurt Duryea, Donnie Free, Thereasa Hulgan, Johna Lindsey and Linda Starr. Luanne Hayes serves as Program Director.
As a program of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, YLC is designed to identify, prepare and build leadership resources within Cherokee County.
