Rodney James Hood Once Again Behind Bars

CCSO - Hood, Rodney x2Rodney James Hood is once again behind bars.

Hood was previously charged with murder, in connection with the 2007 shooting death of James Maurice Henderson; however, he eventually pled guilty to a charge of manslaughter, entering the plea following negotiations with the DA’s Office.

Circuit Judge David Rains gave Hood to a 20 year split sentence, under which he was required to serve five years in prison, followed by five years probation.  As part of that plea agreement Hood was required to pay $2,500 in attorney fees in addition to court costs and more than $2,700 to the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Committee to help offset funeral expenses for Henderson

CCSO - Hood, RodneyA harassment complaint had recently been filed against Hood and on Wednesday of this week he was approached by Centre Police Department Corporal Brent Grimes and Centre PD Investigator Randy Mayorga – to be picked up on that charge.

The officers arrived at Hood’s home around 1:30pm, and found him outside in the yard, at which point Investigator Mayorga began to place handcuffs on the subject; as Mayorga cuffed one hand Hood reportedly used his other hand to pull out a gun however an alert Corporal Grimes knocked the weapon from his hands immediately – averting a potentially dangerous situation.

Investigator Mayorga then quickly cuffed the other hand and placed Hood under arrest.

Hood was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center, where he remains on charges of Harassment and a Probation Violation.

It appears he will also be charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number.

The ATF has now joined the Centre Police Department in investigating the matter and additional charges could be forthcoming.
