Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen Fined $119,000 Due to April Explosion

OSHA has fined Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen $119,000 for 17 serious safety violations – in the wake of an explosion which occurred at the plant last April.

OSHA said the explosion took place as a generator was being shut down for maintenance and the internal investigation conducted concluded that the blast was the result of a worker’s error, and it wasn’t due to an equipment failure.

Georgia Power added that the employee failed to follow proper procedure during the shutdown.

The serious violations included a failure to comply with “tagout” procedures, which are designed to control hazardous energy sources.

Three people were treated for minor injuries as a result of the explosion.
