The Cherokee County Commission Monday unanimously approved the 2013-2014 Budget.

Chairman Kirk Day the total budget is $18,206,948, a decrease of 2.4% decrease from last year’s budget.

There were some changes made following a called budget meeting last week.

County Administrator Tim Burgess went over those changes.

In addition, 25-hundred dollars was added to help with utilities at the Cherokee County Historical Museum.

There is also an extra 5-thousand dollar appropriation being requested from the Healthcare Authority for CED Mental Health.

The budget also once again shifts 432-thousand dollars from the Highway Fund to the jail.

Cherokee County Budget For October 1, 2013 Through September 30, 2014

In other action Monday, the commission approved the annual Highway Department bids for the Fiscal Year beginning October the 1st, 2013 through September 30th, 2014.

The bids awarded included Blount Springs Materials for aggregate; Kerr’s Ready Mix for concrete; Batey and Sanders for grater blades; Alabama Guardrail for guardrail; Red River Specialties for herbicides; ChemPro Services for herbicide treatments; Hudson Materials for HP permanent cold patch; McCartney Construction for hot mix asphalt materials; Ergon for liquid asphalt; Contech Construction Products for metal pipe; Jim’s Asphalt for plantmix patching materials; Traffic Signs for road signs and Peek Pavement Markings for traffic striping.

All were the lowest responsible bidders with Alabama Guardrail and Hudson Materials being the only bidders in their catagories.

There was one split bid, that for petroleum products.

Cedar Bluff Oil was the lowest responsible bidder for diesel while Jack Green Oil submitted the low bid for gasoline.
