“Ag in Action” Open House at Cherokee County Career & Tech Center

Wednesday’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Open House, for the “Ag in Action” Learning Lab on Wheels, drew a tremendous crowd to the Cherokee County Career & Tech Center.

Beth Farmer with the Cherokee County Farm Service Agency welcomed those in attendance, and shared some information on how the idea for the project first came about – and how it started to grow over the years, and finally, how those different agencies and individuals worked together to bring the project to fruition.

That enclosed trailer, one of only four of its kind in the U.S., provides students with an incredible virtual experience related to the field of farming.

Spring Garden School Principal Mike Welsh was one of the first to “get behind the wheel” of the lab during the open house, and he said it was an amazing feeling and he looked forward to seeing the students using the hi-tech equipment.

Ag in Action is a cooperative effort among seven counties – Cherokee, Etowah, St. Clair, Blount, DeKalb, Marshall and Calhoun, with funding coming through a variety of grants and donations.

The work on the Ag Simulator was performed by students at the Career & Tech Center, and Tech Center Principal Brett Keasler, said it was something to be proud of – and this should serve as an inspiration for those thinking about career tech education.
