Former Rome businessman Lance Walker is requesting a new trial.
In August, Walker was sentenced to a prison term of 25 years on child molestation charges.
His attorney said the guilty verdict was (quote) “contrary to law, and the principles of justice and equity” (end-quote) and Walker is asking for new evidence to be allowed at trial.
Walker’s attorney said the issue is whether an Aggravated Child Molestation charge, should have went with another charge; a change could mean that Walker could be paroled at an earlier date.
Should Judge J. Bryant Durham rule against the motion the case will then proceed to the Georgia Court of Appeals.
Walker was found guilty on the charges of Child Molestation and Aggravated Child Molestation, Sodomy – and two counts of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes.
