A man charged with killing a Wellborn Elementary School Teacher two years ago, has now been sentenced to death.
The Anniston Star is reporting that Nicholas Smith, age 24, has been sentenced to death by lethal injection for the kidnapping and murder of Kevin Thompson in April, 2011.
Prosecutors contend that Smith, Tyrone Thompson and Jovan Gaston – kidnapped the third grade teacher from his Jacksonville apartment, and forced him to withdraw money from several ATM’s in the Jacksonville and Anniston areas; he was then duct-taped and driven to Cherokee County – where he was stabbed to death and left alongside U.S. Highway 278.
Frances Curry, the mother of the 29 year old victim – told the Anniston Star that she feels justice was served with the death penalty sentence.
Tyrone Thompson – no relation to the victim – will reportedly be the next to be tried in that case; a trial date has yet to be set.
