With little more than a handful of items on Tuesday night’s agenda, the Cherokee County Board of Education meeting was short and sweet. The first of those items was the approved renewal of the ARMS Automobile Liability Coverage as well as the ARMS General Liability/Errors and Omissions Coverage for fiscal year 2014.
Also approved was the Homebound contract with Jennifer Colbert.
The board then approved a contract for employment with Debra Goss as Spanish Teacher at Spring Garden School. Additionally, Amanda Rodgers was hired as Kindergarten Teacher at Sand Rock School, effective tomorrow, August 28th, while Timothy Hartmann was hired as Bus Driver at Gaylesville School, effective September 2nd.
This was followed by the posting of a Instructional Paraprofessional position at Centre Elementary School.
Out of state travel was approved for Amie Davis, Library Media Specialist at Gaylesville School, and the Gaylesville yearbook staff to attend a one day yearbook workshop in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 9th.
Lastly, Superintendent Mitchell Guice gave an update on funding the placement of resource officers in the schools and at football games. Guice said that if the Sheriff’s Department is unable to secure a grant, the board would then need to decide whether or not to retroactivity provide the necessary funds. Whatever action the board may decide to take, Sherriff Jeff Shaver would still be willing to provide officer placement, according to Guice.
A budget hearing is scheduled to be held Monday, September 9th, at 3:30 pm, with the next scheduled meeting of the board to be held the following day, Tuesday, September 10th, at 6 pm at the Central Office.
