Although it’s August, Christmas was on the agenda during a recent Piedmont City Council meeting, specifically, a massive live-action Christmas display that could be moving to the city from Dadeville.

Laeman Butcher addressed the city council and asked for their support.

He says the 20 Christmas/Religious scenes took over nine months to build and they were drawn by a Japanese artist.

The group has invested over $100,000 in the scenes, which are supplemented by live actors in costume.

He adds it takes about 15 minutes to drive through.

The scenes have been a staple of the Christmas Season in Dadeville for 25 years. So, why are they looking to move to Piedmont?

Butcher says all he is asking the city for is the use of a public area.

Mayor Pro Tem Billy Baker, who was presiding over the council meeting in the absence of Mayor Rick Freeman, says he thinks it’s a good idea that will bring a lot of people to Piedmont during the Holiday Season, especially since the Piedmont Ministerial Association will be handling the operations of the display.

Baker did admit that the city officials will have to see if they can adequately provide electricity needed for the Christmas displays before giving the final go ahead.
