Suspect Taken Into Custody in Connection With Anniston Shooting Incident – UPDATED

A 17 year old has been arrested and he could be facing charges of attempted murder for allegedly shooting two people last Friday (August 16th).

A 23 year old man was shot in the chest, apparently after being involved in an argument with the suspect outside the Shell gas station on Quintard Avenue Friday night; a young woman shopping inside the store was grazed by a bullet and struck by shards of glass as the bullet crashed through the window.

Both victims were taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment and were later released.

According to the Anniston Star, Anniston Police Sergeant Chris Sparks said that the teenager had been identified as a suspect in the case on Monday afternoon; the individual’s name has not been released due to his age and the fact that charges are still pending.

Police reportedly identified the young man through the surveillance footage taken from the store, and from eyewitnesses.

The suspect was taken into custody outside of an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Cooper Avenue.

The case remains under investigation.
