The Piedmont City Council has approved an agreement with Etowah County for animal control services.

Piedmont Police Chief Steven Tidwell spoke in favor of the agreement.

Chief Tidwell says instead of paying a flat fee of a thousand dollars a month like they were with Calhoun County, they will pay 30-dollars per animal.

Plus Etowah County will provide other services related to non-domestic animals that Calhoun County did not provide.

He says he researched the 30-dollars fee and he believes it is a good deal.

Mary Bramblett was the only council member to vote against the agreement.

Tidwell says the city is close to hiring a new animal control director.

Interviews are expected to take place Monday.

In other action, the council approved a request from Chief Tidwell to declare three police vehicles as surplus.

The Ford Crown Victoria’s are 2002, 2003 and 2004 models and will be sold.

The money will help pay for the recent purchase of three newer model vehicles the council voted to purchase last month.
