Proposed Property Tax Rate Hike in Chattooga County NOT Popular with Residents

A group of between 40 and 50 area residents showed up to voice their opposition to the proposed property tax increase put forth by Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters.

Two hearings were held on Monday at the Chattooga County Civic Center with roughly the same number of people attending each session.

Winters has proposed raising the millage rate for property owners in the county – to what would amount to an increase of just over 19%, saying that move is necessary to continue to fund county services.

A third and final hearing on the matter has been set for Monday, August 26th at the Civic Center, starting at 4:00pm.
