Etowah County Drug Bust One of the Largest in Years

Last week Etowah County law enforcement officials seized more than 400 grams of pure cocaine from a residence on North 9th Street; the illegal powder was estimated to be worth some $40,000 on the street – and if processed into crack cocaine the value would increase to around $60,000.

Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin told ABC/3340 that it was one of the largest amounts seen in the county in many years.

Investigators reportedly spent more than two months putting together that case which began after Drug Task Force Commander Rob Savage received an anonymous tip.

Agents watched as numerous drug transactions occurred at the location – in some cases seeing as many as 50 to 60 people a day make contact with the suspects.

Three locations were targeted as the bust was made – the residence on North 9th Street and also a home on Mary Street, as well as a home in Attalla.

All four suspects were reportedly armed.

35 year old Richard Lewis Riddle was charged with Trafficking in Cocaine and two counts of the Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance – Jhavaris Rashawn Riddle is facing charges of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and a number of Probation Violations – 30 year old Jerome Williams was charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, along with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and a Probation Violation – and the fourth individual, 34 year old Roderick Randall Lloyd is the first person to be arrested under the new firearms law that went into effect on August 1st; he was charged with being a Violent Felon in the Possession of a Loaded Firearm and with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Investigators say there are additional cases pending against the accused drug dealers and the drug task force has presented their findings to the United States Attorneys Office and will seek federal prosecution.
