Governor Robert Bentley has taken a step toward making the state’s roadways safer by awarding an $800,000 grant to the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
That additional funding will allow for an increased presence of state troopers, at all locations that have experienced a high number of roadway crashes and other traffic violations such as speeding and impaired driving.
The grant will allow troopers to work extra hours, and conduct high-visibility traffic enforcement measures including driver checkpoints and increased patrols – especially around major holidays.
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides the state with funding and the new grant is being administered by the Alabama Department of Economic & Community Affairs.
