Property Taxes on the Rise in Chattooga County

Jason WintersProperty taxes are going up in Chattooga County.

Commissioner Jason Winters has announced that property taxes will increase by about 19%; he said (quote) “the proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value if $75,000 is roughly $42.57 for the incorporated areas of the county and approximately $46.38 for the unincorporated areas; the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $50,000 is approximately $28.38 for incorporated areas and $30.92 for unincorporated areas” (end-quote)

Winters said that hearings on the property tax increase would be held at a later date.
