Georgia Woman Sentenced For Shooting Husband As He Slept

A Floyd County, Georgia woman has been sentenced to 25 years (with 20 to serve) for shooting her husband eight times in January of this year.

Police say 59-year old Janice Charlene Thornton of Rome shot her husband in the head, abdomen, arms and legs with a .22 caliber pistol as he slept.

She received the maximum sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated battery under the Family Violence Act and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

At the time of the arrest, Thornton said that the couple had been talking about divorce the day before she shot him.
