Rainsville’s Jon Bailey was the first day leader on Saturday – in the annual Dub Ellis Invitational Golf Tournament, held at the Cherokee County Country Club.
Bailey withstood challenges from defending champion Chad Calvert of Boaz & former Cherokee Club assistant pro Jeremy McGatha, to claim top honors in the Championship Flight on Sunday.
Bailey would post a two day total of 136, which was two strokes better than runner up McGatha.
Ty Cole of Gadsden was third and Calvert fourth.
Local participants that fared well in the Invitational included David Garrett and Tim Hill. Garrett was third overall in the First Flight and Hill earned the fourth spot in the Third Flight.
