Unemployment Inches Up In Cherokee County


According to the latest information from the Alabama Department of Labor, unemployment in Cherokee County ticked up last month, but is still much lower than it was in June of 2012.

Cherokee County’s jobless rate checked in at 5.9-percent in June, up from 5.7-percent in May.

It was 8-percent in June of last year.

In Dekalb County, the unemployment rate was 7.2-percent, up from 6.9-percent the month before, but still lower than the 9.2-percent reported this time last year.

Etowah County’s rate also ticked up from 6.3 to 6.7-percent from May to June.

It was 8.1-percent in June of 2012.

And in Calhoun County, the jobless rate was 7.5-percent in June, compared to 7.1-percent in May and 8.6-percent in June of last year.

The statewide unemployment rate actually dropped from 6.8 to 6.5-percent over the month.

It was 7.6-percent this time last year.
