An early Saturday morning house fire claimed the life of an Etowah County man, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
53-year old Brian Steven Geary died after a failed attempt to escape from his home located at 520 Benson Drive in Gadsden.
Geary was able to successfully help his wife seek safety before he passed away.
She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Etowah County Sheriff’s deputies, the Etowah County Arson Task Force and members of Black Creek, Highland and Lookout Mountain volunteer fire departments responded to the call at approximately 5:00 am Saturday.
Geary’s body will be sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
No foul play is expected at this time.
An investigation is ongoing to find the cause of the fire.
