Rain that moved through the area between 3:30 and 4:30 Monday afternoon created some localized flooding problems in Centre.
Rising water in the roadway on the Cedar Bluff Road at Park Street near the Fort McClellan Credit Union resulted in police having to block the road between the credit union and the CVS Pharmacy.
Localized flooding was also observed in the Centre City Park and in yards along County Road 22 and Highway 411.
Scanner traffic indicated that one woman had to be assisted after her car stalled in the water on Park Street.
Indications are the water came up to the vehicle’s headlights.
The system that brought the rain seemed to stall right over Centre, dumping more precipitation onto an already soaked ground.
According to measurements here at the WEIS Radio Studios, we received 3.52 inches of rain between Tuesday of last week and Sunday of this week.
For a normal July, Northeast Alabama usually receives between 4 and a half and five inches of rain for the entire month.
Due to the weather, Monday’s swim lessons at the Centre City Pool had to be cancelled.
