Due to the recent rainfall, the water level at Little River is higher this July than in past years, and officials are urging caution when visiting the preserve.

On Tuesday, Chief Ranger Troy Mueller and Ranger Chris Caukins assisted Fisher Rescue on with a 50-year old Arkansas man at Little River Falls and an 18-year old Georgia teenager at Martha’s Falls.

In a recently issued news release, Little River Canyon Superintendent Gail Bishop urges people to observe safety signs.

In June 19-year old Ricardo Perez of Rome drowned while attempting to swim across Little River near Martha’s Falls.

Bishop said that was the first drowning incident in 2013.

Little River Canyon National Preserve is visited by over 200,000 U. S. citizens and international visitors.
