Some folks in Northwest Georgia finally have an answer as you why they may have felt the earth move a little last Friday morning.
The 2.1 magnitude earthquake shook an area just 5 miles northwest of Trion and 24 miles west of Calhoun at around 8:49 a.m.
Both Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama have a particularly active track record of earthquakes in the south, as both are located inside what is called the ‘Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone.’
Though this area is not known for having large, destructive tremors, there are several Earthquakes through-out the year—many of which go undetected by people.
The largest earthquake recorded here was centered on Fort Payne, AL. in 2003 and had a magnitude of 4.6.
