Cherokee Nationals 8 And Under All-Stars Advance To State Tourney

Baseball

The Cherokee County Nationals eight and under baseball all star team defeated Guntersville in the championship game Thursday night in Glencoe 13-2 to win the District 8 Championship.

The Nationals only had to win one game where Guntersville would have had to beat the Nationals twice because of losing earlier in the tournament to them.

Since the top two teams from District 8 advance to the State Tournament, both the Nationals and Guntersville will get to go.

The Nationals ended the seven day tourney with six wins and no losses in the 12 team double elimination tourney.

Having beaten Buntersville 20-1 earlier and wins against Boaz 21-3, Piedmont 18-1, Mountaineers 15-0 and the other Cherokee County team 18-2, the Nationals were the only team without a loss.

Guntersville came through the loser bracket to finish 2nd in the tourney.

During the six games, the Nationals scored an astounding 105 runs and only gave up a scane 9 runs.

A truly remarkable feat for 7 and 8 year olds.

The win has sent the Nationals to the State Tournamant, starting July the 12th at 7 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.
