Garbage Collection Billing Discussed At Cedar Bluff Utility Board Meeting.

Some members of the Cedar Bluff Utilities Board want to see the Town take over billing for garbage pickup.

At the present time, garbage appears on utility bills and the board collects it for the town. They get 4-percent of the billing for doing so.

Board member Ken Blair says that is not enough to cover the time it takes to do the billing.

He suggested going up to 10-percent or turning the billing over to the town.

Blair added that the utility board would continue to collect the money until the town was ready to take over.

When questions were raised about the town having the appropriate software to do the billing, board vice-chair Cindy Early suggested tabling the issue until the next utility board meeting.

Cedar Bluff Council Member Billie Burkhalter was at the utility board meeting and she told members that she appreciated them delaying a vote on the matter.

In other action, the board got some good news during their Tuesday meeting regarding the budget.

Year to date, the Water and Sewer Departments are showing a combined net of just over 11-thousand 851 dollars.

Last year at this time, the two departments were 40-thousand dollars in the hole.

Board member Linda Picklesimer says a rate increase and sewer taps have helped the financial picture.
