Blood Assurance teamed up with the Centre Fire Department Saturday for a blood drive to collect donations for Cherokee Medical Center.

Local residents stopped by the Bloodmobile, which was parked at the Centre Wal Mart, to do their part to help their neighbors.

Felicia Atterton, Donor Recruiter with Blood Assurance, says at the present time they are not collecting enough blood in the area to keep up with the supply needed at the hospital.

On average, the hospital uses about 30 units a month.

Currently, there are only 10 to 15 units being collected locally.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds.

Remember, your one donation can save up to three lives, and the entire process only takes about 20 minutes.

After you’re done, you get a snack and a t-shirt.

You will also be entered to win NASCAR tickets, which will be given away at the end of the month.

If you were not able to make it out to Saturday’s blood drive, more will be held in Cherokee County in the coming weeks.
