Rome City Police are investigating a homicide that took place early Sunday morning on Wheeler Street.
According to Lt. Gary Clayton – neighbors heard gunshots around midnight in the neighborhood, off of East 20th Street – and immediately called police.
Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as 39 year old Kevin Daniel, lying in his neighbor’s yard – suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach; investigators believe that Daniel had been shot on his own front porch and had attempted to run next door for help.
Daniel died at a Rome hospital around 8:00am.
Investigators currently have no active suspects, and are asking for the public’s help.
