Busy Weekend For Dekalb County Authorities

Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports the arrest of three individuals on various drug charges as well as the recovery of a stolen backhoe.

Deputies arrested 32-year old Dustin Shawn Highfield of Collinsville during a traffic stop near Sylvania at 1:05 am Saturday.

Highfield was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, DUI, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, 24-year old David William Davis of Stevenson was arrested after a traffic stop near Fyffe just after midnight Friday.

Davis was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sheriff Harris also reports the arrest of 37-year old Christopher Dwayne Chandler of Birmingham, who was arrested after a 911 call to a residence about a disturbance Saturday night.

Chandler was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All three were transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center where they remain awaiting bonds.

In an unrelated matter, a 1998 Caterpillar Backhoe was found near a wood line by an observant citizen, who called to report suspicious activity.

A deputy responded to the scene and the the Backhoe was identified as a piece of equipment belonging to Republic Services Landfill near Lebanon, which had been stolen from the landfill in April.

It appears the windows were broken in the cab but the unit was still operational and was returned to the owners.

This case remains open at this time regarding the theft.
