Law enforcement officials investigating Friday’s deadly crash are not sure why a Dalton woman veered off the Gore-Subligna Road.
The wreck happened approximately 11:25 a.m. near 2385 Gore-Subligna Road.
Georgia State Patrolman Chris Harris says 51-year-old Elizabeth Venita Stephens, of 160 Jenkins Drive, lost control of her white 1999 GMC Sierra on a straightaway.
She ran off the roadway for several yards and struck a culvert in a 8′ to 10′ ditch.
They believed she died on impact with her steering wheel.
Stephens was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said.
The crash shut down the Gore-Subligna Road for about two hours. Removing the woman was a bit tricky.
The truck was wedged in the ditch and required Gore volunteer firemen to anchor the truck down before trying to remove the victim.
