Members of the American Legion were at the Cherokee County Health and Rehabilitation Center Tuesday to present membership cards to the veteran’s organization’s newest members.

It’s all a part of the “Sponsor A Vet Program,” in which sponsors step forward to provide memberships for local veterans who are unable to pay dues to join the organization.

American Legion First Division Commander David Hartline says benefits include a 1-thousand dollar life insurance policy and a subscription to the American Legion Magazine, which allows them to keep up with all of the happenings going on in the organization.

Hartline says they hope to continue to grow the program in Cherokee County.

Anyone who would like to sponsor a local veteran or anyone who knows of one who needs sponsored can contact any local American Legion member.

American Legion Post 62 Commander Daniel Kovacs; Cherokee County Probate Judge Kirk Day, who is also the Post 62 Adjutant; and Jim Braswell, also with Post 62, were also in attendance during the ceremony.
