A train crashed into the trailer of a big rig that failed to make it across the railroad tracks in time, Friday morning in DeKalb County.

According to WAFF TV48 the accident took place around 9:00am near the Nucor-Vulcraft plant, just north of Ft Payne. The trailer was loaded with metal sheets – and the force of the impact sent the contents in all directions, with some of the payload winding up in a nearby field.

The roadway was blocked for most of the day as crews worked to clear away the debris.

EMA officials were also called in to deal with the possibility of diesel fuel leaking from the truck

The driver of the truck was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
