Joyce Garrard Denied Bond by Circuit Judge on Tuesday

Garrard Case - Joyce GarrardJoyce Garrard will NOT be getting out of jail anytime soon.

That was the word from Circuit Judge William Ogletree during a Tuesday morning court hearing in Gadsden.

Garrard is behind bars awaiting trial in the death of her granddaughter – nine year old Savannah Hardin.  Prosecutors say Savannah was forced to run as punishment for telling a lie; she ran until she eventually collapsed and was taken to the hospital for treatment – where she later died.

Both Joyce Hardin Garrard and Savannah’s stepmother, Jessica Mae Hardin – were placed under arrest in connection with the case.

Garrard stands charged with Capital Murder for allegedly making the nine year old run for hours, and Hardin was charged with murder, for failing to step in and stop that punishment before it was too late.

Garrard could be sentenced to death if convicted, whereas Hardin – who has since been released on bond – faces life in prison; Garrard is currently being held without bond.
