Gaylesville Man Injured In Georgia Wreck

gsp patch modified

A head on-collision in Floyd County about two miles from the Georgia-Alabama State Line sent a Gaylesville man to the hospital Saturday with non-life-threatening injuries.

Georgia State Troopers told the Rome News-Tribune that 24-year old Billy Tolbert of Rome was hauling a boat on a trailer and heading east on Alabama Highway in a red GMC Canyon pickup truck while 48-year old Tommy Crane of Gaylesville was heading west in a black Ford pickup truck.

Crane swerved into the eastbound lane and Tolbert swerved to try to avoid him, but the vehicles collided head-on and the boat was dislodged from its trailer and landed in the road. The Ford was knocked back nearly 100 feet from the point of impact, traveled down an embankment and came to rest in a ditch.

Troopers say the wreck was medically related and no one was cited.

Tolbert complained of injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

Crane was taken to Floyd Medical Center where he was still being treated late Saturday.

Tolbert’s passenger, 26-year old Jason Muhlbauer of Acworth, Georgia, was treated and released from Redmond Regional Medical Center.

The wreck, which occurred at around 5pm, blocked traffic on the Alabama Highway for about an hour.
